    Automated System Recovery

Does anyone know how I could schedule the System Recovery tasks to automatically run(e.g. Clear all flags,Reindex application files, etc.). The object of this exercise is to perform these items on a monthly basis at the click of a button. Since I am a Programmer, I would like accomplish this Programatically. Or at least know how to reference the modules that handle these tasks. I would then just create a Small VB program that I would include as a Custom Menu Option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is for AccPac Pro Series 6.5. Regards, Patrick

Patrick, You have two options 1) Pro Alert (web alert)- You can program scripts to have Pro Alert run. I believe there are already a couple to do some of what you want. You probably already have WA. 2) PayBack Plus - This is a third party add on that sits out side of Pro and will run those tasks on a scheduled basis, as often as you want. $1194 (you can contact your reseller to purchase) Ryan Ketterling www.bautomation.com

    Re: Automated System Recovery

Ryan, I was just recently hired as the first Programmer/Technician in my company. One of my first tasks has be set to expedite certain automations with Our AccPac Pro Series Accounting Package. My Bosses have expressed the wish to if possible bring forth results in-house Programmatically. Without source code the task has been daunting. Is there a way to gain some training in AccPac Basic Programming that is available somewhere? As you have probably guessed by now, we don't have Pro Alert. I'm prepared to advise them to Use Pro Alert if there is absolutely no other option(And they'll probably be grabbing the backs of their elbows at the additional cost). But at the same time it could personally empower me to get the benefit of addition learning through learning Pertinent Programming methodology. Regards, Patrick Castillo Investors Business Services

Patrick, In order to program in Pro you are going to need to have a deep understanding of VFP. I do not know of any official training offered by Sage, we have done customer training for customers in the past. I would suggest PayBack Plus. There have been 1000's of hours spent in developing this program, it runs out side of Pro and does not require source code. I would then spend time on a modification that someone has not already done the work. Do you have source code? Do you have Customization Manager? Re: Automated System Recovery

     Ryan,

Sorry I took long to reply, but we have a lot of things in the pipeline right now. We put this Automation on pause for a while. But I had already been able to successfully run a test automation on the "Clear Flags" option (after going through the source code). I still have about 6 more options to go but at least with that one it was fairly simple after examining what the source was accomplishing(the comments in the code were helpful).

I guess when you have worked extensively programming in databases as long as I have the fundamentals are the same(regardless of the Programming Language). If I need any further guidance I will not hesitate to contact you.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Patrick
